We're teaming up with Source Wellness to discuss the benefits of “feeling feelings" on the job.

Strong emotions and professionalism seem like the antithesis of one another. Our feelings are with us whether we’re at home or in the office. The stigma of emotions often show up through tears in the bathroom stall or in quiet undetected fuming after a frustrating meeting. Why is it that suppressing emotions just feels “safe” most of the time.

In this session we will learn to develop a healthy supportive relationship to “feeling our feelings''. When we have the capacity to observe what we’re feeling, describe what we notice and remind ourselves that what we feel is “ok,” we can start to appropriately tend to our needs and improve performance at work.

Session Outline:

  • Explore the rationale of emotional literacy at work, identify the costs and benefits of “feeling feelings” on the job.
  • Better understand our emotions as data that provide information to support our well-being.
  • Practice Mindfulness skills that increase our capacity to safely pay attention to emotions and manage what we notice in the present moment.
  • Diversify our emotional profile by expanding our “vocabulary” to better understand what we feel and effectively communicate our needs to others.
