Promotion discussions

I noticed that people of color struggled to move forward in their careers at Kantar Toronto. It was a red flag for me, and I took it as a sign that maybe I should leave the firm. I started getting calls from other companies, and they were asking me to come work in a position that Kantar was telling me I wasn't qualified for.

Company culture

They try as much as possible to make everyone feel like they're part of the team, but it's still overwhelmingly white. As a Black person, there were times when I felt a bit separated from the community or the team. The people are nice, but the culture was still out of touch. I didn't really feel like I could be myself at work. I still had that reservation that I was a minority in the office, and I wanted to stay on my own and be professional. I was hyper aware of my differences.

Relationships with manager(s)

My manager was awesome. She trained us really well. She was quite passive in dealing with my concerns. When I applied for a certain position and didn't get it, I wanted to know why. Things were good until I wanted to get a promotion, when I started to think that she wasn't supportive of the promotion. She could have done better in showing that I was productive for the team and for the company, and she didn't do that.

End-to-end

If you move up the ladder at Kantar, it just gets overwhelmingly white. All the people of color seem to leave.
