More intentionality in bringing together the black employees could be helpful. They have employee resource groups but, to my knowledge, there's work to be done a it pertains to mobilization.

Company culture

Meeting employees halfway as it pertains to scheduling flexibility is a huge strength for PepsiCo. Also, within Marketing, Finance and Sales, there are a considerable amount of poc, even as you work up the ladder. I wasn't expecting to see as many black women dominating the Marketing floor as I did.

Relationships with manager(s)

I've had more managers than people usually have. I'm pretty independent, so they give me a lot of responsibility, and they trust me to work on things. Some managers are more hands-on and make you communicate every day, while others let you run with it. Regardless, I feel like I have a lot of autonomy over my work.

We need to do more work on retention. We need to focus on how much we're mentoring people to feel supported to get to senior leadership levels. There's no Hispanic person in leadership, but this differs across brands and locations.

We have a lot of ERGs. Mosaic is for the Black community, Adelante is for the Hispanic community, and there's one for women and for veterans as well. The ERGs could be more effective. We have a lot of good touchpoints and events to celebrate culture, but there's always room for improvement.

I've had really incredible managers. I'm constantly asked by leadership about how I'm feeling about my projects and how the company is responding to the things going on in the world.

I was really happy with the way that PepsiCo jumped in to support Black Lives Matter. It took a push from our Black employees to publish the brand statements we did, but once that push was made, there was a great response by PepsiCo leadership. They have continued the support by planning a day to learn about bias and talk about some of these things.
