Salary and benefits

I've been more of a loyalist in that I don't want to switch jobs all the time. When promotion time comes in January, I plan on using some things like education or certifications to ask for more money.
August 7, 2020

Salary and benefits

In my family, neither of my parents made more than $30,000. I'm making around $88,000 now, but I feel like I should be making more. I've seen some of my peers do it, but I don't think I have the courage to do it now. I think my salary is on the low end.

Relationships with manager(s)

They've been pretty good. I've gotten along better with my manager's managers than my direct manager. I'm considered more of an introvert here, even though before this I would have considered myself more social.
August 7, 2020

Training and career development

They need more mentorship programs and career planning programs.
August 7, 2020

Diversity programs

It's been painfully inefficient in trying to understand the struggles of underrepresented minorities. I told the committee that I didn't want to participate unless we were talking about diversity and inclusion. We have a few URMs on the committee, and we've been speaking up about what problems people are going through.

Promotion discussions

My experience was good because everything was there for me to look through. When I started, they gave me expectations, and then at the mid-year review, they walked me through what I did or didn't do, and then the same thing happens at the end of the year.
September 4, 2020

Diversity programs

When you look around, you can see that minorities come in through the diversity programs, but then they leave after 6-8 months. People that stay at the company for a long time have familial connections at the firm and they feel more included compared to people that just started. It's visible in my office. Half of the people here have family that used to work at Wells Fargo, and they usually bring friends to work here as well.

Relationships with manager(s)

I got lucky because I ended up in a group where my direct manager is very supportive. She takes the time to listen to you and to find a solution with you. She's very diplomatic. She'll talk through things to find a way to fix things with me. I really like working with her.
September 4, 2020

Company culture

Work-life balance is based on the market. If the market is busy, then you'll have a lot of workload. You also have a lot of resources to do your job well. The company is really good about doing that and giving balance. We get a lot of trader holidays and it's easy to take PTO or take leave.
September 4, 2020

Application and interview process

Everyone that I spoke to had good feedback and had good things to say about how they were treated. I didnt see any signs of discrimination or anything like that.

Diversity programs

I was part of the team member networks. In the last 2-3 years, they've focused on it and put more attention on it. Before, it was hard to get the resources and get participation in the programs. I work a lot with the minority recruiting team. I know that they do a lot for veteran's and other minority groups. I would have liked to see them be more consistent. The firm has a variety of diversity programs, some more empathized than others. While D&I is a focus, the overall priority has been getting back in compliance with all outstanding regulatory issues

Relationships with manager(s)

My manager and I have a really good relationship. She's someone that believes in me personally and professionally. She's really hands-off, and she trusts her employees.

August 11, 2020

Company culture

When there were race issues, they didn't necessarily bring it up, but when we brought it up, they were very supportive. We got help from management in setting up any conversations and forums that we wanted to have.
August 11, 2020

Diversity programs

They need to do a better job getting more diversity at the managerial level.
August 11, 2020

Relationships with manager(s)

They've been good. They're open and welcoming for me to talk to them about a lot of things.
August 11, 2020

Application and interview process

The interview process was good. I felt like they gave me a fair chance to represent myself and show off why I'm the qualified candidate for the position. I did two phone interviews and then I was flown to Carlsbad to do an in-person interview with 4-5 people. That gave me an opportunity to express myself and give a good account of myself, which is always better to do in person.
August 11, 2020

Relationships with manager(s)

There have been some instances where I feel like I don't have the relationship that some people have with some managers. Some of the white people in the office have a better connection with some managers than you end up having, but overall I have a great relationship with a lot of the managers that I work with, and I'm able to express myself or concerns that I have.

Training and career development

They have CMTP (Credit Management Training Program) where they send analysts to San Francisco to learn about different roles. They also offer you the chance to switch and go to any other office or any other role. They offer it as a local MBA and an opportunity to learn about the firm culture.
August 13, 2020

Diversity programs

There was no diversity. My team was 40 people, and I was the only Black person. It was a 50-50 split between men and women, and there was 1 Hispanic person and 1 Indian person.
August 13, 2020

End-to-end

We worked in the lending group. I would love to say that it was mostly deal-focused, but it wasn't. We didn't get a lot of deals that year. I would say that it was a lot of bank diligence work, which I don't think is the best experience.
August 13, 2020

Company culture

There was an overarching theme of niceness. The best experience about it is that analysts have someone that focuses on making sure that they're staying on track.
August 13, 2020

Application and interview process

Their application was more like an MBA program application. We had to write a personal statement about why diversity matters to us. From there I got an interview for the program.

Relationships with manager(s)

My manager serves more as a "boss" than a leader. I have entirely navigated my career without the support of any of my managers. There is not much interested in my professional development, but more so about doing my job and doing it well. I will say, however, that my manager does allow flexibility for life circumstances, such as needing to leave early for childcare purposes or working from home when needed.
December 6, 2019

Training and career development

Wells Fargo does a good job of allowing its team members to navigate their career. I have personally been able to move seamlessly through different lines of business, while continuously being promoted. The company also has a strong culture, and many people are content with devoting their careers to Wells.
December 6, 2019

Diversity programs

Wells Fargo does not do the best job at hiring diverse talent in to their corporate/finance roles. While we have minority team member networks, they could use much more support from managers and top of the house. Wells also could improve on the assistance they provide retail employees looking to move into corporate roles. Many of them are locked in and there is not a strong pipeline in place to support their upward mobility.

December 2, 2019

Company culture

My company appreciates and promotes work life balance extremely well. I have never once felt like my personal obligations were not respected. In fact, personal obligations are appreciated and personal time off is encouraged.
December 2, 2019

Company culture

I think my company could improve on the front line in general. We have allowed bad regulatory practices and the company as a whole needs to gain back the trust of our customers.

We need to diversify at the top of the organization. Currently, we do great at diversifying at the bottom, but it needs to expand across all levels.
